Print - Vocho, from the ashes
This vocho (Mexican colloquialism for the Volkswagen Beetle) is part of a series taken in the Mexican state of Yucatán. The Beetle is the best selling car in Mexican history, and it’s not close - its low price and easy maintenance kept Mexico producing them for 25 years after Germany called it quits. This ubiquity means that these days, the vocho is no longer just a car. It’s a cultural touchstone, used as scenery, artwork, and more.
This particular vocho was part of the 2022 Festival Filux in Mérida. It was used in a piece of artwork called Faro by artist Luis Ramírez. Read more about his work here.
This photo was featured in the West Eden Gallery in Bangkok, Thailand, and is one of 25 prints that will be made.
If you order a version of this print that includes matting and a signature, please allow for extra processing time as I will be assembling each as orders come in.
