Tommy Rhodes is a photographer from the Pacific Northwest. He fell in love with photography at the age of 10 while living with his family in Chengdu, China. Away from home and far too blonde, Tommy picked up his dad's spare camera as a way to both document his time abroad and reflect some of the unwanted attention his hair drew. In doing so, Tommy developed a lifelong passion for photography, cultivating a journalistic style that prioritizes representing the subjects of his photos authentically.
Today, Tommy enjoys work that allows him to highlight the individuality of his subjects, using a blend of photojournalism and portraiture. His current work explores themes of community, social justice, and personal growth. His photography has been featured in publications for Davidson College and The Columbian and displayed at the West Eden Gallery in Bangkok, Thailand and the Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
When not taking photos, Tommy enjoys coding, traveling, singing ridiculously old church music, and going on kayak adventures with his wife Stephanie and dog Zelda.
